I remember doing this, but don't remember how I did it. But it should be 
easy enough to work out. Use ERRCLEAR, then ping an address that will not 
reply. Then SHOWJCW and SHOWVAR @[log in to unmask]

If that doesn't do it, then RUN PING.NET.SYS with appropriate info strings, 
and send its output to a temp file ;STDOUT=, I think. Evaluate the temp file 
as you see fit.
