I am reasonably sure that if some entity "took over" MPE, they would also
take over the revenue stream that has apparently been invisible to CSY
(support).  Most of the vendor community already realize that in the long
run, it is the support revenue stream that you live on.

If there were 30,000 systems each paying $1,000 per month then that is a 30
MILLION dollar per month revenue stream.
If there were only 5,000 systems each paying $500 per month,  .... well you
get the idea.
On the other hand, they would lose the revenue from new system sales which
would presumably still fall to HP.
