Well, another conference book closes...

Announcements by Harry Sterling applauded (by me and most
others)... It looks like our HP3000 has a great future with the
advocates we have within HP, which include Harry and his
staff... Our SIG was especially happy to hear about the
Netscape Fast Track server port to the 3000, and with only one
product to support over the two platforms (MPE and HP-UX) - it
should be good for HP as well...

For those (like me) who caught the flu (I hear that quite a few
conference members caught it) - it runs its course over about
three days, with day-one being the worst of it. For those of
you who still think the way I looked on Thurdsday had something
to do with my alcohol intake at the Wednesday night party --- I
have a witness who will testify that I only drank Coke that
night <g> (although I did look like I had one hell of a hangover
on Thursday, I'll admit)...

We STILL don't know who perpetrated the "MPE Forever" pins, for
which I have a certain lister to thank for my one pin (thanks
Wirt :-). Those who were in attendance on Tuesday morning and
found Adager's booth, got to see Wirt's QC-Term (pre-Alpha
version) running. Great work Wirt! (say THAT 10 times fast)...

Lots of sessions, lots of SIG meetings - and lots of conflicts
unfortunately. Hopefully, something can be found for next year.
This seemed to be the major problem --- three or four sessions
in the same time slot, and the damned scientists still haven't
perfected cloning... oh well..

TurboIMAGE enhancements - including B-Trees and ODBCLink/SE were
announced (and shown off) on various machines in HP's booth as
well as others. SIGImage's ballot keeps getting bigger, but
items do come off - this is definately a good thing - the
cooperation between SIGImage and Jon Bale's group in the
database lab...

The weather couldn't have cooperated better... and Chicago was
not at all what I expected. Just getting used to multi-level
highways... the people were great, the city is clean, and Navy
Pier is definately a crown jewel for which Chicago should be
proud.

And to at least one person who has been hoarding Bolt Bucks (you
know who you are) - I think there might be some competition
still <g>

All in all - it was really great to see all of you who attended,
as always :-) To those of you who offered either "cash" or
"otherwise" for one of my two HP booth-duty shirts however,
they're still not for "sale" <g> - I do have to say, however,
some of those "offers" were quite tempting ;-)

Well - until IPROF...

Best Regards,
Joe
