Mike:

After you install the drivers and patches, and before configuring the new
NI and link, verify that all the software has been installed:

:nmmaint, 77 (from MANAGER.SYS or other NM user)

     Subsystem version ID's:

HP-PB 100Base-T Fast Ethernet driver B5427AA module versions:

     NL procedure: BT_NL_VERS Version: A00550B0
     XL procedure: BT_XL_VERS Version: A00550B0
     NL procedure: LAN_100_NL_VERS Version: A00550B0
     XL procedure: LAN_100_XL_VERS Version: A00550B0
     XL procedure: SUBSYS_77_FMT_VER Version: A00550B0
     Catalog file: NMCAT77.NET.SYS Version: A00550B0
     NL procedure: LAN_STATION_ADDR_VER Version: A00550B0
     NL procedure: IEEE_MULTICAST_VER Version: A00550D0
     NL procedure: WANDMPSURRVERS Version: A00552B0

     HP-PB 100Base-T Fast Ethernet driver B5427AA overall version =
     A.00.55

All the module versions should display a version number -- if "Not
Installed" appears anywhere, you won't be able to configure and run the NI.

It's a fairly simple configuration process:

     - run NMMGR, and open the configuration file
     - set up the new link configuration (NS/Unguided Config/Go To Link):
specify BT100 link type; enter "Y" in the appropriate field to
specify Use AutoNegotiation; save configuration data

     - select the NS configurator, then Guided Config
     - enter a network interface name, then enter '9' for a network type
(100BT should be option 9 on your screen)
     - press f1 (Configure Network)
     - enter pertinent data (IP address and subnet, link name, etc.
     - save and validate
     - start your new NI and test

Yes, the card can run at either 10Mb or 100Mb -- when you specify
Auto-Negotiation in the NMMGR config, the card will sense the appropriate
rate.

Good luck.

Subject: Configuring 100MB TX Card (Part # B5427AA)

I've been mulling over the NS manuals to replace an existing 10MB LAN
card with a 100MB card on our HP3000 running 5.5 PP4. I have my hands on
the subsys tape which I'll need to do an update along with the recommended
HP patches. I'm OK with that part. My dilemma is how to configure the card
in NMMGR while removing the 10MB card.

As a side question: I believe the card can run at either 10 or 100mb. Is
this true? I would appreciate any help

Thanks for your time.
