Adager did a lot of work regarding Chinese CCDC/Big5
conversions during 2000/2001. In fact, I presented a
paper on the technical aspects of this project at HP World
2001 in Chicago:
http://www.adager.com/TechnicalPapersHTML/GypsyProgramming.html

I had the pleasure of visiting HP Taiwan in 2001 during the
final stages of the project, whose purpose was to CONVERT
existing IMAGE databases (with Chinese CCDC characters)
into the exact same databases (but with Chinese Big5
characters). This, of course, included rehashing of master
datasets whose search fields had Chinese characters.

The intent was different from yours, because you seem to
be interested in DOWNLOADING data from hp3000 *files*
(or did you mean to say "databases"?)

Be it as it may, as is the case with technology,
cross-fertilization is a good thing. Who knows? Perhaps
some kind of technology transfer from Chinese to Arabic
can happen via Adager as a technology broker?

Do you have access to the Arabic ASMO449/ASMO708 tables
-- preferably in some kind of C algorithms and data
structures?
