Well, we use it to...

1) Serve reports that a perl script converts from PCL to HTML.
2) Perform a number of different operations/management functions.
Reply to device requests ( POSIX Shell )
       Launch and/or schedule backups ( Perl )
Log users off ( Perl )
Start and stop jobs ( Perl )
Verify that regular jobs are running. ( Perl )

With regard to 1, we get a lot of good use out of that! We saved our
plant a pretty good amount of money in paper and human costs. People
at remote sites, or travelling can get their reports without the paper
hassle. Also, since we run 24 hours, but don't have 24 hour operations,
those reports are available on the Web within 10 minutes of when the
first copy comes out, no operator needed.

With regard to 2, those are things that could probably be done over the
console. But, with the Web interface we gain: ease of use, fewer commands
typed, minimized chance of operator error, transportable interface, shorter
learning curve, etc. There are also other benefits too...

Hope that helps!

Hi All,
Now that we have the main component, the WEB server and some
of the development tools such as perl, JAVA available on MPE, I am
wondering how these things are being used by the end customers.
Are there any shops that have deployed the WEB server and if yes
how it is being used by them ? Just curious :)

CHEERS!!
