Hello,
My name is Steve, I am the system operator for two HP3000's. I've come
across a situation I have not encountered and my boss (system mgr) is on
vacation for the week and his boss (vp of oper) is out of town on
business. I'm trying my best to keep this ship afloat. This Sat. the
building we reside in is turning off all power for at least 7 hours. Our
996 is hooked up to the buildings UPS and the switch in the back is set
to 'bypass'. Our 2nd HP, the 939, is not connected to the buildings UPS
and it only has one UPS of its own. I understand that may only provide
power for 15 minutes. The building electricians want to run building
UPS power to the 939. Can we unplug the 939 from its existing power
source, let the UPS take over, and then plug immediately into the new
power supply which is hooked into the buildings UPS. After this we would
flip the switch on the back of the HP's UPS to 'bypass'. If it helps,
HP is installing two more disk drives on the 939 this Thursday night and
we will already have the operating system down. Can the power supply
swap be done then? Is there any configuration that needs to be done to
allow for the bypass? Should I contact the Response Center? I can't
get any pages returned from those above and decisions need to be made
soon. We will have users on the system this Saturday during the
proposed power outage. Thank You in advance for anyone's comments and/or
advice. Steve.
