Robert, if I understand your question correctly, and IIRC, then you
don't need to do any processing for the date format of the filed.  VIEW
will do that for you (VIEW will validate that the data was entered in
the correct date format, and supply an error message if the data is
entered incorrectly).

Greetings to the -L,
 
I have an optional date (DMY) field which if filled must have a valid
date. I think that the following processing specs (excluding the 'not
valid date' part) is correct.
 
IF NE $EMPTY THEN
  IF 'not valid date' THEN
    FAIL "You must enter a valid date in DDMMYY format."
 
Questions:
 
1) What should I put in place of  'not valid date'?
2) Is the rest of it correct?
 
It has been over 9 years since I last coded stuff like this and my
memory has failed me.
