I was impressed by the list's response last week to the Concorde
'jokes' - in that it was ignored ( at least publicly ) that emanated
from one of your educational establishments ( making the presumption
that this list is predominantly contributed to by the U.S. ).

I don't want to ruffle anybody's feathers here but the alternatives
to a society/community where free speech is practised are even more
abhorrent to me.

Oh ! ... just to offend you all ( sorry ya'll ) I wouldn't know a Democrat
from a Republican.

Bill

Subject: [HP3000-L] Code of Conduct

All:

If feel like I need to add my 2 cents Canadian (although it may not be worth
as
much as the american cents) to the issue of possible offensive material.

Over the past week, I have been following the postings (all threads) and let
me
say, for the most part, it appears that almost everyone is acting with
respect
towards
others and respecting the thread.

Just imagine for a moment, a client from HP, my client, or a future client
of
any one of the members on this list, venture into our forum to get an
understanding of 'What HP means to us'. Should they see professionalism or
this
off-track commentary. It takes many good people to make a forum, but only
one
to destroy it for everybody else. (Would the readers of WSJ like to see how
we
use our forum ?)

How about adopting the following Code of Conduct:

     First, when in doubt, don't post it. I find this to be a very good
     rule. This rule can be broken when you know every single person in
     your audience personally.

     Second, lets try to keep comments on politics, religion, race, and sex
     (in all its forms) off the forum. If a comment must be made, allow the
     reader the option to click to the web location or receive it by
     private email.

     Third, if you are not sure that your comment is appropriate, see
     First.

Let us remember this is an HP3000 forum; let us all be professionals when
dealing with others, and this applies to our postings.

If there is anyone out there who disagrees with me, please let me know;
otherwise
let everybody know.

Olav.
