Not much data? Not too often? Is Sybase on a Unix system? How real time?
Unix uucp has a scripting capability that you should be able to
setup to run a canned dialog to a telnet session on the 3000. It
could run Query and asked for the dialog (you will have to put the
passwords into the script, but that is *standard* practice for uucp
script files). Then return the data in an file.
 
Please note, I haven't done this in a *long* time, but it might be
a cheap cure (cost is Unix uucp guru time).
