I'm shooting from the hip here...

I believe your return value is always true because the call to showjob is
successful, whether or not your particular job is found. Couldn't you do

  $callci showjob job=@j | grep AA,BB.CC

In this case, the return value should be the result of the grep, not the
showjob.
