The test here is to try another client such
as Outlook Express, Pegasus 32 for Windows or Eurdora. If any of these
work, especially Pegasus or Eudora, then it's the client, and I would
change
it.

netscape mail works okay

2. You do not have a TCP/IP stack running or it's failing, another common
cause.
[Thomas T. Evans,III]
we don't have tcp/ip running because we are using the ip/ipx gateway on
intranetware to avoid the hassle (?) of tcp/ip address management.

3. Firewalls: Do you have one between your client and the SMTP server?
[Thomas T. Evans,III]
no firewall

4. Lastly - traffic timeouts. If network traffic is particularly heavy,
and the server times out too soon, then you will get this problem. PING
your SMTP server...

all of a sudden i am getting 'icmp.dll cannot start. check the file to
determine the problem'. i extracted it again from the cab file but no joy.

from Denys:

Joe already covered some good stuff. I also used to get that error,
sometimes quite frequently, that is until I downloaded and installed the
Office 97 patch. That has solved all my problems with Outlook.

done that .

thanks to both, but so far nothing has hit the mark.
