I must apologise for sending a query, "FTP from IBM to HP3000" to the
listserve that apparently had read ack set on. I know better than to do
this and I'm not sure how it happened. My client, Lotus Notes, is set with
a default of read ack off. I was in a bit of a panic and I screwed up. I'll
try to not do it again. Too make things worse, with brain still disengaged,
I asked the first few "senders" of the "Read: FTP from IBM to HP3000"
messages I caused to please resend their unreadable messages to me. Doh! I
apologise to them too.
Phil
P.S. I double checked to make sure Notes has read ack off on this mssg.

My recent peeve was placing read and delivery acknowledgements on posts
to the list. This is a no-no, IMHO, but not much can be done unless folks
are educated. If people read their introductory message after subscribing,
they can find that using the REPRO command, they can get copies of their
own
messages in lieu of a delivery acknowledgement. As for read
acknowledgements - why would anyone want to know if hundreds of people read
their message?
