One possibility is that your switches are doing some type of "keepalive
spoofing". This is done a lot on slow WANs, and may be happening on your net
also. Can you monitor the segments containing the DTC and the 3000? If so,
you can trap on their respective Ethernet addresses, and compare what is
sent from one to what shows up for the other.

I don't know if we have any of HP's TIO people monitoring the list; if not,
it would be helpful for one of the HP people here to pass this thread on to
someone who speaks fluent DTC, and can tell us what kind of keepalive
protocols the DTCs use.
