The underlying mechanics are completely different but the results are the same. I believe it pre-dates NTP and so gets
the time of the specified network server which hopefully has accurate time. this would be a nice solution for 3000s
with no internet access.. - d

Here the help text and notes from the program..

The SERVICES file (SERVICES.NET.SYS or /etc/services) must have the

   line:

      time 37/udp

and...the *server* must have time running on 37/udp.

nettime ?

NETTIME 20100924

From Allegro Consultants, Inc. www.allegro.com

nettime ... reports time from network server

nettime -d ... debug mode

nettime -f ... like -s, but doesn't actually set time

nettime -h ... prints this help information & terminate

nettime -i ... makes -s set the time NOW, not GRADUAL

                 (-i also implies -s)

nettime -s ... sets time from network server

nettime -t hostname ... specifies time server (default: time)

nettime -v ... print version and terminate

nettime -z ... allow -s even if difference > 10 minutes

Note: nettime assumes a timeserver named 'time'

(use the -t option to change the timeserver)

Sample uses:

   nettime -s

... if current time differs from the timeserver's time,

and the difference is less than 10 minutes,

set the time to the server's time ... gradually

          by using MPE/iX's SETCLOCK command.

   nettime -i

... if current time differs from the timeserver's time,

and the difference is less than 10 minutes,

set the time to the server's time IMMEDIATELY

by using MPE/iX's SETCLOCK ;NOW command.

   nettime "-i -z"

... if current time differs from the timeserver's time,

set the time to the server's time IMMEDIATELY

by using MPE/iX's SETCLOCK ;NOW command.

(Does not care if the difference is more than 10 minutes.)
