Since last month I've still been trying to configure these disc drives
on my test machine.  Someone finally whispered a clue that the some
types of firmware for HP2490AM disc drives MAY not work on HP3000s,
period.

Could someone look at the firmware revisions from MAPPER below and
confirm my suspicions before I rant on the vendor?
