Connecting serial printers to an HP3000 via a network can be done. Here's one
way: In our case, we use Netware for our PC LAN. I've used both remote serial
print servers (similar to the Jet Direct), and I've also used old PC's (286's
will even work) with serial ports setup as dedicated print servers with those
printers connected and then defined with Netware print queue's. I then use
NBSpool (from Quest Software) to direct my HP3000 spool files to Netware which
in turn does the physical printing on the printer. I've been able to do CCTL
and PCL forms using this method with no loss in formatting. I print to all
kinds of printers (both impact and laser) located globally via our WAN from an
HP3000 located in California. Yes, there is a cost, but if you need the
solution...

Unfortunately, not to my knowledge. We have the same situation with many
serial printers that are still connected through the telephone wiring
via DTCs

If you find another solution, please share it.

Subject: Adding a 2563 printer to Network??

I have two sites with the 2563 printers with serial interfaces. These
sites
will soon migrate all their serial connections to network connectivity
to
the HP3000 (more than likely with hubs/routers).

The response center told me the 2563 printers can not support a parallel
interface to enable the use of the external jet direct cards. We can
not
replace these printers, we have to make them work in this new networked
environment. It is also undesirable to connect the printer to a PC.
Does anyone know of a workaround?
