I "care about 'open'" systems. I would love to be able to keep up with
new stuff. Now I have to get classes which either don't teach me
about what everyone is excited about (Image, MPE ...) or which
don't relate to my job. Make this system something to talk about.
Put it on an equal footing with the HP9000. How many times have
I heard someone talking about getting rid of the HP3000 so we
can move to an open system (like the HP9000)? Can we stress
the openness of our system?

We use the Transact programming language Image (with no add-on for indexing).
We buy a fleet of HP3000 systems but no open programming language ("C").
Provide
the "C" compiler to everyone. Bundle it. Get Transact either in the loop or
provide a converter.

Can we provide ODBC to allow our customers a change to use a newer product for
data
handling? This then would we could use the HP3000 as a dataserver.
I mean provide ODBC free to those with a contract.

HTTP server software - get it out to us. Web browsers ... bundled JAVA ...

Now I'm excited. I want a three tier approach to a Transact program with Image
as a back end. Can Transact talk to middleware?
