It's quite easy to do. Type Escz (that is: Escape little z) to initiate an
internal self-test of the terminal.

To check the terminal's communications capabilities, simply create a dummy
connector such that pins 2 and 3 are wired together, put the terminal in
remote mode, and begin typing. If you can see what you type, communications
are highly likely to be good.

To check the terminal's printer capabilities, connect a printer to the
auxiliary port, set the baud rate appropriately, fill the screen the text,
and type in the appropriate escape sequences or simply press PRINT (if your
terminal has that capability).
