I am not sure what I think of the idea of appointing Directors. What I am
sure of is that the list of areas from which to seek potential candidates
scares me. The stated goal of Interex is user advocacy. The types of
individuals mentioned in the letter would be counter-productive to this
goal.

1. CIOs of large corporations: Fortune 500 and HP enterprise accounts have
HP's ear already via the golden rule. (He with the gold makes the rules.)
2. Vendors: While many of the current and past members of the directorate
have been vendors, I am not sure that that is the direction a "user group"
should favor.
3. HP representatives: While I am sure that HP is an honorable company,
their representatives do not belong on the board of the advocacy group. (I
have been a member of "user groups" where the "company" never let a session
occur without there representative being present. This limits the degree of
candor with which one wants to speak.)
4. Representatives of "focused/vertical" industries: What does that mean?
5. Industry luminaries: Like Bill Gates or Lew Platt?

These are some of the questions I have on the new bylaws.
