This was discussed in detail just before Christmas last year; you may wish
to check the list archives for around the 3rd week of December (LOG9512C)
or if there is sufficient interest I will repost a summary.
 
Briefly, VOLUTIL does NOT defrag a disk volume, it merely tries to
consolidate free space.  It doesn't change any extents, just moves them
around.  HP's official statement said that CONTIGVOL was not intended to
be used as a "defrag" utility.
