To add to Larry's advice...

If using network printing under 5.5 with a JetDirect device or card -
you can assign a Device Class name (such as NETLP, which is what I
use) or some other name, similar to that of LDEV 6 which is "LP".
 You can then use the device class name in the FILE equation, as
such:

  :FILE PRTFILE;DEV=NETLP

There is a difference between the device name, and the device CLASS
name - the device class name is what you want to place in the FILE
equation.

Lastly - if you configured with SYSGEN, did you restart the system
and the spooling process?  IOCONFIG.PUB.SYS will let you add the
devices "on the fly" - but adding with SYSGEN will require a reboot
before the devices can be used.  Just a thought - I know someone else
who was implementing this, added the devices with SYSGEN, and thought
something was wrong when the printer didn't start printing...  A
reboot cured the problem.
