I usually have my DDS drives set to NOT eject and NO COMPRESS.
    !DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP 7, disable, disable

I suspect that on a reboot, thats all reset to YES EJECT.

So my backup jobs have the DEVCTRL to set things as I want them.
    !DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP 7, enable, disable /* COMPRESS, NO EJECT */
    do STORE
    !DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP 7, disable, enable /* NO COMPRESS, EJECT */
    do VSTORE
!DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP 7, disable, disable /* NO COMPRESS, NO EJECT */

When I come in to swap the tapes, if they are not ejected,
something may be wrong: Job failed, or some step of backup
is still running.
