A simple reason can be some applications use 'raw data', a file type
that is to dense to compress. An example of raw data applications is the
RDMS Oracle.
Some hardware compressable dds units may not be able to switch back to
compression after putting such a database to dds. I am afraid that you
have to force the switch on every time.
