Don't know much, but a story. Colleagues of our at a sister institution are
moving from DB2 on AS/400 to Oracle on Unix (to the same application vendor
as UTC). They were recently engaged in registration on the new system, but
AR on the legacy system, when their legacy DB2 database crashed and they had
to spend the weekend recovering it and fixing charges and credits. While
obviously not a normal event, they were definitely rather familiar with the
routines of recovery and with contact from IBM's DB2 support experts. BTW,
they also regard Oracle/Unix as more complex and challenging than DB2/AS400.

Like many products, it's "new" if anything has changed. MPE has been "new"
many times. When so many words are so abused and "buzzed", it is hard for
others to realize we actually mean the things we say about MPE. HP needs to
learn a little about marketing hype, even if I respect them for not falling
off that cliff already.

I have long thought HP should market the 3000 directly to AS400 and VAX
customers that might be thinking upgrades. This has the advantage of not
directly challenging HP-UX claims.
