Hehehe...  reminds me of our old SPL-based procedure which performed database opens on
behalf of our Cobol programs (so they wouldn't have hard-coded passwords).

The original Series-II code would read the system switch register, and open the
databases in read-only mode 5 if the left-most bit (switch) was set.
