i noticed that too when the problem got handed to me.  i ftp'd the same file in
bytestream mode and it unzipped wonderfully.  what's (still) strange about all
this is -- this job has been running in binary mode for months (7-9?) without a
problem....until last night <sigh>  oh well....   thanks mark!              - d
