Fortunately, there is thriving life outside of Interex-HP :-)
After HP's decision to kill the hp3000, people in the hp3000
community are (rightly so) looking for the least-damaging
alternative(s). There are the obvious ones (several versions
of Unix, including Linux, as well as vendor-supported OSs
such as those that IBM offers). And there are the subtle
ones. Those who know me will be happy to know that I continue
to have a lot of technological fun exploring non-obvious
avenues.
I just came back from the O'Reilly Mac OS X Conference, a
"family event" for Unix geeks who have discovered the beauty
of Apple's integration of a BSD Unix engine with the Mac's
"user experience".

Jordan Hubbard, former hp3000 programmer, co-founder
of the FreeBSD Project, now Manager of BSD Technologies

Specifically, this session covers:
* Recompiling Apache with mod_perl and mod_ssl support.
* Running a relational database server, such as PostgreSQL

* Getting and using Ant, JUnit, and Tomcat.
Wheeler describes his motivation for creating this session:
"Linux has been getting a lot of press coverage over the last
couple of years, and there has been a lot of emphasis on the
ongoing development of Linux as a desktop platform. But to this
day, Linux hasn't made many inroads into the desktop OS market,
being limited mainly to use by developers who needed Unix to do
their development work. Apple's great hardware (particularly its
notebooks) and Unix-based OS have created a serious drain from
the Linux desktop market as serious developers have embraced
Mac OS X as their primary workhorse OS. My presentation aims to
help those looking to make the switch get comfortable using the
tools they need on the new platform."
