I saw a late late night show where some misguided MTV youth's had several
innovative solutions.

- The obvious for tape media was the oversized 110 powered electro-magnet.
- Media grinder (supersized paper shredder) for tapes and disk
- Microwave for non-metallic disk media (surplus microwave, not the office
lunch room model)
- Chemical bath for hard disk which we were assured was both environmentally
friendly and human safety.
- Fireworks box for computers in general which I was sure was not
environmentally friendly or human safe.

I am thinking they might make interesting targets for pistol or shotgun
shooting when hung from tree's... It is not like I am going to hit that
open center in the mag tape anyway //8-)

Another innovative solution might be one of those tree grinders.

Truthfully thought, there are vendors who will provide environmentally,
safe, human safe and confidential data destruction. I am sure a Google of
"COMPUTER MEDIA DESTRUCTOR" will kick up some hits.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Demagnatizing tapes

Greetings,

I've transferred all of our reel tapes to DAT
and now have a LOT of reel tapes with somewhat
sensitive data on them.

What's the best/cheapest/easiest way to make
these tapes unreadable, besides the use of a sledge hammer?

Thanks,

Ernie
