A big "Thank You" to everyone who responded, including Ken Hirsch who offered to diagnose the PDF in question and Stu Diamond who offered to show off his Windows-based text2pdf solution, and especially Mark Wonsil, who sent me an updated version of text2pdf that addresses the problem I was having. Thank you, Mark, I'm back in business!
