Okay, so maybe this is Monday instead of Thursday...
I just started a small Y2K conversion for a client running
5.5 on a 927. I am performing the conversion on my in-the-
office development 922 running 5.0. His application is a
simple CM Ksam/Cobol application .
Stupid me - I decided to see how 5.0 was going to behave
after midnight, so i rebooted my machine with the clock
set to 1 am, 1/1/2000. The boot went ok, got some strange
messages, but no real problem...UNTIL... i tried to bring up
the network (NETCONTROL, etc) got all kinds of ugly messages...
the upshot was NO you may NOT run your network, your config
files are invalid.
Not wanting to spend to much of the clients time and money on
the whys, i just restored @[log in to unmask] and all was well.
Praise The Lord For Good Backups!
The moral to this story: Even if you are experimenting with your
test/development system, make sure you have > 1 good backups
before removing the lid from Pandora's box.
Followup questions:
I looked on the archive and didn't find the
answers...
1) What release of MPE iX is the earliest
to support Y2K?
2) What realease of MPE iX is the earliest
to support Long dates in View?
here's the kicker.....
3) How can all of us independent developers
running old versions (4.0, 5.0) of MPE iX
obtain new versions without going on support
and spending more than our machines are worth
just to be able to perform Y2K testing?
Sorry for the length. TIA for all advice.
Joe
