I have been working with the Workload Manager features of MPE/iX lately,
and am quite impressed with the ability to fine tune system performance by
finely targeting individual users and programs with higher or lower
priority assignments, among other things. In essence, you can subdivide
the CS queue (for example) into sub-queues. One of the things I did with
it is to treat the UDC/Command File processes, that run before & after a
core application program, differently from the program itself for overall
better system performance. (I realize that something like this can be done
crudely with the PRI= options that mixes JOB queues DS & ES with CS; but,
the Workload Manager is much more flexible than that).

I am not aware of any similar control under HP-UX for individual processes,
just kernel parameters that affect the entire system. Is there some kind
of HP or third party product available for HP-UX that allows this? If not,
this is an example of better OS design within MPE/IX compared to UNIX.

On another subject, am I the only one that thinks the ITRC website for
MPE/iX patches is difficult to use? Why are there no dates associated with
the release of the patches (which should be sortable)? If one wants to
monitor the site for new patches it is nearly impossible. Any comments or
suggestions?
