Hi,

Sorry I couldn't address this earlier. Although I didn't scan every email on the topic, I think a number of points that a good service provider (ahem, I can think of one :) would have suggested trying weren't mentioned.

1. is LDEV 3 responding now? (Uh, 'now' meant: while the STORE is still hung (prior to reboot :))

... an easy DEBUG command could verify that

2. exactly what are the various STORE processes waiting on?

... an easy DEBUG command (coupled with a less-well-known & safe DEBUG command)
could have shown this information in detail.

3. even if the backup is "hung", in what manner is IMAGE database inaccessible (there are several possibilities,
each with a different set of potential workarounds ... but none are perfect)?
(the 'hang' also depends upon the type of backup: normal, or ONLINE?)

Although I'm sort of retired from Allegro, I'm still a founder/co-owner, so I don't want to
interfere with them by suggesting details for the above.

Stan

Thank you Denys. We restarted but could not find any problem with
ldev3. Everything checked out. Ldev 3 has lots of free space, as
does the rest of the system. I have no idea what caused the s-t-d to
simply stop mid way through the backup.
