Hi Folks,
It was James' posting that gives me the opportunity to back what he says about eBay. I have made many, many purchases on eBay over the last 5 years and the HP927 was just the latest. I would not have purchased it if my bother, who lives outside Tilton, NH was not going to be visiting Hartford(just south of Windsor Locks) next week. Very fortuitous indeed. He will be packaging it also at his business where he packages all his own work. He is a glass sculptor( www.sandglas.com) and knows how to package fragile items. Not that the hp3000 is fragile, but he knows how to minimize "rough handling" as it will be shipped to the left coast.

I have a full set of 6.5 tapes and they will come in very handy. DOA...well...we'll see...

Hello All,

>>What if the backplane or processor board is fried? Now
>>what have you got? We bought a system on eBay and it wasn't a good value.

I have had good luck with the hobbyist machines I have bought off of eBay..
One of my e-class boxes came out of a coal mine and runs great for the total
cost of 65$ including shipping (that is it runs great when it is not too
warm in my office to power them up:), but as you pointed out YMWV (Your
Mileage Will Very). I have bought 5 computers so far off of eBay and only
had to return one for DOA replacement (a positive experience in the end).
eBay been a great resource for cheep Linux hardware as well as cheep Unix
hardware. I also think in the future it may be a good source for some of
those rare parts our 3000 homesteaders are going to need to keep the boat a
float, keeping in mind that you are actually paying pennies on the dollar
for this hardware and sometimes you get what you pay for.

Regards,
  James Hofmeister
