Hmmm. Where did you learn that the 3000 is not open or not state of the
art? I have just spent a day on porting the GNU "info" documentation
browser to MPE/iX, and I was using the (free) GNU gcc compiler and the
(free) GNU cvs concurrent versioning system for this task. Oh, and for
browsing or editing files in the MPE/iX HFS filespace I used Netscape
and Programmer's File Editor from my NT PC, accessing the MPE/iX files
via Samba/iX (ie 3000 looking to my PC as just another network drive).
And the 3000 was also serving the LaserROM documentation via http so I
could use Netscape to view it. Ain't that reasonably open?
Oh, by the way, I received your posting via SMTP in my Netmail/3000
inbox and read it via the freeware POP Client Eudora Light from my PC.
Lars (really curious what *open* systems are ;-)
