I saw a mention in yesterday's digest about MicroFocus COBOL being
good for cross-platform development (in the context of HP3000,
HP9000, and more). I learned just moments ago from the Acrobat
document
<http://devtools.apple.com/cs/C-S_Brochure.pdf>
that MF COBOL also runs on the Mac, as do PowerBuilder, PowerPlay, and
SAP R/3 Client. (PeopleSoft is working on porting their wares.)
Not too bad for a "toy."

Incidentally, I also found that INTERSOLV (1-800-547-4000, 301-838-5000)
provides all kinds of ODBC drivers. They mention explicitly on their
web page (start at <http://www.intersolv.com/>) that they provide
connection for Macs (and PCs) to Allbase, Image/SQL, Oracle, etc.
Mind you, I haven't had experience with their products, but they
appear to fill a need that has previously been mentioned here.
