Gary,

I've setup a (slightly) modified version of NETTIME for a client, and
it's fairly straight-forward (although the original docs that were with
it from the Interex CSL were erroneous). Unless your willing to hack
the code some, you'll need to setup the following:

1. Place an entry into the SERVICES.NET.SYS file for the 'time 37/tcp'
entry. This is in the code if you look at it. Unfortunately, it's misleading
since the code uses UDP instead of TCP. Also the original docs
stated this was a NTP client, but it isn't. It is a TIME client (big
difference in the accuracy it will hold the system to).
2. Setup an entry in the HOSTS.NET.SYS file for 'time-server' pointing to
a host that is running a 'TIME' protocol (RFC868 compliant) daemon.
Usually this is a Unix box, but it can be another 3000. I've got a freeware
version on my web site called TIMESRV (with source code) you can use
if this is the case.
3. I believe the version on JAZZ includes the executable directly, so just
upload it and go. Without parameters it will simply display the time
retrieved from the daemon, and your system time. If you pass it
a "-s" parameter, it will issue a SETCLOCK command with the
DATE, TIME and GRADUAL options.

The above assumes you'll be executing NETTIME from the CI in lieu
of the POSIX shell. Either way works fine, but if under the shell, you'll
either need to edit the POSIX equivalents for SERVICES and HOSTS,
or establish links to the MPE versions (that way you'll only need to
edit one copy).

If you need anything else, let me know.

Regards,
Michael L Gueterman

Subject: NETTIME Documentation?

Could someone on the list point me to some documentation on the
installation and use of the NETTIME package from JAZZ?
