what you need to do is

to another hp3000
 FTP>put yourfile ./yourfilelongname
to a unix machine
 FTP>put yourfile yourfilelongname

ftp from unix to hp3000
  put this attached awk script into your /usr/local/bin/ name it file.length

to hp3000 from unix
   $file.length filename

    ...length = 30, records = 68313

   FTP>put filename;rec=-30,,f,ascii;disc=68313

hope this helps.....

Subject: FTP.ARPA.SYS - PUT

Using FTP, is it possible to 'PUT' a file from the HP3000 to a network
environment with a filename > 8 characters?

When I try to do the put with a file name > 8 characters, I get the
following error:

Permission denied.
Data Transfer Request Failed. (FTPERR 13)

Any ideas?
