Here's a good one about the "value" of used computer equipment:  Once
upon a time, I worked for a water utility in California.  Now in
California, the accounting rules are governed by the Pacific Utilities
Commision for a water utility.  Since computer equipment was coverted
under a 30 year old rule which placed them under "Office Supplies &
Equipment", they had a 15 year depreciation schedule.

So, even though the HP3000 we had was 8 years old, it still had
considerable value, and after it's donation to the dumpster became a
considerable tax write-off.
