Donna,

Assuming that your job/session has established a CWD, you might be able to
use './' to precede the HFS filename, as in "mget ./lngrep.98*" ?? You're
correct when you assume that 'mget' cannot use target filenames.

Also, issuing the "prompt" command in ftp prior to "mget" will override the
mget confirmation requiring a "y/n" answer.

Subject: ftp and mget

hi all!
one our application groups needs to bring a file back via
ftp to our production mpe box. the scenario they've
presented me with is: the root of the file name is always
going to be the same (lngrep); the extension is numeric and
represents a julian date -- but they don't know the exact
extension ahead of time. since they don't really know the
file's real name, the effectively rules out doing a 'get' in
ftp. the following is what i get when trying to do 'mget':
ftp> mget lngrep.98*
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening data connection for lngrep.98*.
226 Transfer complete.
14 bytes received in 0.01 seconds (0.98 Kbytes/sec)
mget lngrep.98191? y <<<< btw, can the 'y' go into
an ftp script file?
The group name provided did not start with an alphabetic
character.
(FILE SYSTEM ERROR -117)
Data Transfer Request Failed. (FTPERR 13)
The group name provided did not start with an alphabetic
character.
(FILE SYSTEM ERROR -117)
i get the same results when doing the ftp from mpe or from
within the shell. looking at the syntax for 'mget', i don't
see where i can specify a target name -- so i don't think i
can force the results into posix name space. so...is this
as s.o.l. as it looks? :-) am i right in thinking 'remsh'
or 'rexec' (client) has been ported to mpe? if so -- where
is it/who's got it? - d
