It is a good idea to keep DTC's and 3k to 3k communications on a separate
thinnet. That is our customary setup. We have the 10Base-2 MIO interface,
a Token-Ring and a 100Base-T on the same box. We also have a problem with
the 100Base-T coming up as the default gateway and have added the following
line to the commnd file that does the NETCONTROL and NSCONTROL start
commands.
NETTOOL.NET.SYS "NAMEADDR;ROUTING;GATELIST;GATEUP
210.110.1.1;EXIT;EXIT;EXIT"
(you don't need the GATELIST command, it's informational only)

I have been ripping out the coax (BTW, it's 10Base2) every
chance I get.
I have used media converters (10BaseT to 10Base2) whereever
I have a
DTC that requires coax, unless I can replace the DTC with
one that has
an AUI port on it and then I can just use a 10BaseT
transceiver. My goal
is to have zero feet of coax on my network, but that's
purely my own
idiosyncrasy, and I may have to allow a few feet of it for
those DTC's
that require it. There has been some traffic on the list
about 10BaseT
being faster than 10Base2, but I can't vouch for that.
However, since 100BaseT is not going to be supported on
10Base2, then I
suppose you're going to have to replace the coax, aren't
you, at least
if you want the HP3K on the 100BaseT network? And who
wouldn't?
