Dear Library of Knowledge:

Up here on the tundra, we have the option of pre-paying for our next year's
use of natural gas, which I did last year at what I thought was an
attractive price. And it must have been too attractive, because I just got
my renewal statement, and for the next year, the price is 53% higher if I
choose to lock in again. So I called the gas company and was told that
the primary cause of the steep increase is that natural gas is now being
used to produce electricity, especially in California, putting pressure on
demand. Anybody care to comment on this? Am I being fed a bunch of bull?
<end>

My understanding is that we are heading into a serious natural gas crisis in
the coming months and years. We are literally running out of the known
reserves. This is causing a reduction in supply which is causing the price
increases. Seems crazy that CA would switch to using an already dwindling
resource to produce electricity. Maybe it is the most profitable option not
the wisest? Maybe it helps them jack up the prices? This is really an issue
for Canada and other counties because under NAFTA they must export NG even
if they don't have enough for their own needs! So get ready for those prices
to go up even more again next year. Kinda makes you want to switch to oil,
eh?

I hear peak oil is just around the corner as well. Everyone ready to pay
$3.00 to $5.00+ per gallon in 5, 10 or 15 years? Apparently that is a
possibility.

I hear lots of hype about hydrogen and other options but I have not seen a
working prototype of anything that will replace oil/gas for cars, etc.

Ok I am sure someone is going to disagree so don't be shy. What do I know
anyway, I read it on the internet so it must be true...:-)

Josh
