I am trying to ping from my HP3000 and getting the following error
when doing so:
:ping public.domain.tld
-------- PING/XL (ICMP Echo Requestor) : Version B0700001 --------
Invalid IP address.
but using the dotted quad IP address instead reaches the target:
:ping aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
-------- PING/XL (ICMP Echo Requestor) : Version B0700001 --------
PARAMETERS INPUT:
----------------
Remote IP address in hex : $xxxxxxxx
Number of packets : Default of continuous stream
Number of data bytes : Default of 64 bytes
---- PING $D8B947B8 : 64 byte packets ----
64 byte(s) from $xxxxxxxx : icmp_seq = 1, time = 3 ms
64 byte(s) from $xxxxxxxx : icmp_seq = 2, time = 4 ms
64 byte(s) from $xxxxxxxx : icmp_seq = 3, time = 3 ms
64 byte(s) from $xxxxxxxx : icmp_seq = 4, time = 4 ms
< CONTROL-Y >
---- $xxxxxxxx PING Statistics ----
4 packet(s) transmitted, 4 packet(s) received, 0 % packet loss
round trip (ms) min/avg/max = 3 / 3 / 4
Now, this tells me that there is a problem with DNS and so I checked
the file RESLVCNF.NET.SYS and, lo and behold, the old nameserver
addresses had not been updated since our last IP address move! So, I
changed the nameserver entries to reflect the proper addresses of our
DNS servers but the problem persists. Do I need to stop and restart
some process to make MPE/ix pick up the changes I made to
RESLVCNF.NET?
Regards,
Jim
