A while ago, Microsoft pre-released "Express" versions of some development
tools. The 2nd beta of these tools are now available at:

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/

The "Express" products include: Visual Basic, Visual C#, Visual C++, Visual
Web Developer, Visual J# and SQL Server. Once released, the products will
sell about $50 each. These Express products are a part of getting hobbyist
to have tools to play with and is a part of Microsoft's "Coding4Fun"
initiative: http://msdn.microsoft.com/coding4fun/
