Robert,
if you want to send files with attachments or specific
MIME types, you might find the telamon mail utility quite
helpful. It has a couple of command line options in this
regard and might save you from manually building MIME-type
headers, encoding contents, etc.

When running sendmail on the 3000 itself, your would tell
the telamon utility to use "localhost" as SMTP mal server.
