We have an application (Fax/3000)  whose server resides on a PC running UNIX
that uses Sendmail to e-mail spool files from our HP3000. We also have a
Microsoft proxy server(gateway?) which sits between  the PC and our
firewall.

The problem is that Sendmail is not working.  For starters, we can't ping
the DNS server that resides on the other side of the firewall. I'm told that
Sendmail needs to be 'socks' compliant in order for it to 'see' the DNS
server via the proxy server/gateway, but I can't find any information
concerning this; I don't have much in the way of manuals.  I've placed
support calls to the vendor, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this
problem, or has any ideas on how to fix it.
