We have a block mode application, (COBOL, SPL and VPlus), running
on an HP 3000 model 950 under MPE/iX Version 5.0. What we need to
do is provide on-line access to this application from an existing
remote Wide Area Banyan network. We also need to be able to address
a printer to get application print-outs back to the remote users. We
will, in the near future, be getting a Banyan server and leased
line into our office to connect us to the Wide Area Banyan network.
The questions are....
1. Has anyone ever tried to do this before?
2. I know that the HP3000 supports netware, (which seems to me rather
strange since MPE/iX talks TCP/IP and Netware talks IPX), but can I
have on-line access to an MPE/iX application through Banyan
communications and still have remote printers individually
addressable?
3. If I can, what do I need, (I understand that if it is even possible,
I will at least need Vines ENS)?
If anyone can answer these questions, please let me know either here
or at the e-mail address below.........Thanks in advance.......
