Probably a dumb question...but do you have any reason to
believe that they *are* compressable?  I.e., if they have
compressed data already, they might not be functionally compressable.

If they are compressable, then that implies that either (a) you
didn't tell ORBiT's backup to compress as it stored, or (b) ORBiT's
compression algorithm isn't as good as whatever you used to
subsequently compress the file.
