From ZDNet:
Unix servers, Wintel prices
Wrapped up in merger plans, Hewlett-Packard hasn't lost sight of its intense
competition with IBM and Sun in the Unix-server arena. Yesterday, HP
introduced Unix servers that follow rival Sun into the sub-$1,000 market.
The systems bring the new PA-RISC 8700 chip to HP's low-end Unix servers,
and the cheapest model has a starting price of less than $1,000. Are these
Wintel-Lintel busters or is HP fire-saling its PA-RISC technology to clear
the way for its Intel-only strategy?
