Wirt,
I haven't been reading this thread until now, but the web server
which Lars' pages are on does not cache any pages on its own.
I would also (as John pointed out) suggest that your ISP is
performing its own caching to help their customers with frequently
requested pages. I've seen where some cable companies setup
huge caching proxy servers for their cable modem customers (as
does AOL) to help speed up frequently requested pages. AOL
is especially bad about that, and in general is a real pain in
the a#s to web developers since they have so many quirks to work
around. They're almost (not quite, but close!) as bad as Web-TV
in that respect.

I know that Internet Explorer 5.x also does not correctly refresh
itself if the URL hasn't changed. Since I do a lot of web applications
in Cold Fusion, I have many pages that are dynamically created based
upon user input. For many of those, the URL stays the same, but the
application server creates a whole new page. IE 5.x does not always
pick that up and instead of getting a nice new page, I get the previous
one. I've taken up appending the time as a URL parameter just to get
around that problem. It can be frustrating! I've noticed that when
you click on 'file|properties' in IE 5.x, the created and modified dates
are not correct. This is probably the root of the problem as it uses
those dates to request new pages from the server. For example, my home
page was updated January 8, 2000. Netscape Navigator correctly shows
the dates under 'View|Document Info' (I like using an OLD 3.01 version
to check for compatibility :) but IE 5.00.xxxxx shows it as 1/16/2000.

For what its worth, I just checked out Lars' home page, and I see
the 'Java Tips and Examples' link :)

Regards,
